Physical properties

1)Density

     The relative density of nylon 12 is only 1.01~1.03, which is the smallest among all engineering plastics, which has the effect of reducing the weight of automobiles and thus fuel consumption. If compared by unit volume, nylon 12 has advantages in both price and performance

2) Melting point

    The melting point of nylon 12 is 172-178°C, which is slightly lower than nylon 11. It can fully meet the requirement of an automobile’s fuel pipes and air brake pipes working temperatures.

3)Water absorption

The greatest disadvantage of nylon products is its high water absorption and poor dimensional stability. However, as nylon 12 has more methylene molecules, so it can greatly reduce the influence of hydrophilic groups. Therefore, nylon 12 has the lowest water absorption rate among all nylon products, and it reduces the change of performance of size and property because of water absorption, which are the enhanced advantage of nylon 12. After absorbing water, the tensile strength of nylon 12 decreases very little, but nylon 66 and nylon 6 have great changes.

4)Impact strength

Impact strength is an important technical index, especially for nylon 12 pipes that are often exposed to the air. Nylon 12 was tested according to the standard at -20 ℃ and -40 ℃, and there was no break, which fully met the usage requirements. Nylon 12 has excellent impact resistance.

5)Low temperature performance

Nylon 12 has the lowest brittle temperature and it can reach -70℃, so it can be widely used in low temperature resistant parts.

6)Flexibility

      The influence of plasticizers on the physical properties of nylon 12 is concentrated on the elastic modulus of the resin. Nylon 12 has three basic types of resins, the main difference between them is that they have different flexibility due to different plasticizer content. As the content of the extractable components of the plasticizer increases, the elastic modulus of the resin decreases.

7)Low abrasion and low friction performance

Nylon 12 has excellent low abrasion and low friction properties and self-lubricating properties, so the friction noise of nylon 12 is very low.
